Qualis Employee Receives Space Flight Awareness Honoree Award

Huntsville, AL – Mike Baysinger of Qualis Corporation received the Space Flight Awareness (SFA) Honoree Award for his outstanding contributions as a key member of the Advanced Concepts Group at Marshall Space Flight Center on the Engineering, Science and Technical Services (ESTS) contract. The SFA Honoree Award is an important recognition of NASA and industry employees and is presented to employees dedicated to quality work and flight safety. As an Honoree, Mr. Baysinger will be rewarded with a visit to the Kennedy Space Center facilities as a NASA VIP, have the opportunity to view a Shuttle launch, attend a reception honoring award winners, and meet with top NASA and industry officials as well as members of the Astronaut Corps.

In his daily work, Mr. Baysinger coordinates and formulates advanced concepts via computer aided design (CAD) efforts for the integrated design group. This involves conceptualizing and developing designs that meet form and function for a variety of studies, including in-space propulsion stages, lunar architectures, and Mars architectures. He has received 11 NASA Group Achievement Awards and other program awards. As a member of the Quench Module Insert Team, he was awarded the MSFC Group Outstanding Task of the Month Award for its excellent work.

Mike has received high praise from his NASA customers on many occasions; his NASA customer has always expressed “amazement” at the quality of his work. Some of his designs and charts have been in stories on Fox News, Aviation Week, and Space Technology, and some of his designs are currently on display at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. He is currently participating in the Lunar Lander project and his design was chosen from many from across the Agency as the baseline concept for the first design analysis cycle. He has also created design charts of various concepts that were used at very high levels of the Agency. His Qualis supervisor, Roger Herdy, acknowledges that Mike is “one of the best of the best.”
