Qualis Employee Receives Silver Snoopy Award
Huntsville, AL – Charles R. Cooper of Qualis Corporation received a Silver Snoopy Award for his outstanding contributions to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) and space exploration over his 45-year career. The award was given in the new Davidson Center auditorium on November 6th. The Silver Snoopy is one of the highest NASA honors an employee can receive for professionalism, dedication, and outstanding support that greatly enhance space flight safety and NASA mission success. Silver Snoopy awards are given to less than 1% of eligible recipients, and an individual can only receive one Silver Snoopy Award in his or her lifetime.
Cooper currently supports the Engineering, Science and Technical Services (ESTS) contract at MSFC by providing engineering consultation and design for the Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) test operations. ECLSS is an integral component of the International Space Station that generates clean drinking water and oxygen for astronauts. Cooper has supported MSFC and NASA for over 45 years. He designed and developed the first high power LASER at MSFC, pioneered the neutral buoyancy method of zero-gravity simulation, and established and managed the Neutral Buoyancy Simulator (NBS) at MSFC.

As an recipient of the Silver Snoopy, Cooper received a sterling silver pin in the form of Snoopy, the “Peanuts” cartoon character outfitted in a space helmet and spacesuit, a certificate, and a letter of commendation signed by Astronaut Michael Foale citing the appreciation of the astronaut corps for his outstanding performance.
