Environmental Control Life Support Systems

Qualis develops systems specifically designed to control the working environment biosphere for spacecraft and astronauts. This capability includes life support for operations requiring man-in-the-loop test and evaluation of pre-flight and flight hardware.

Qualis supports the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) science and chemistry laboratory that provides data at the MSFC ECLSS Test Facility. Qualis also supports a key component of the ECLSS program for the International Space Station (ISS), the water processor that will provide clean water to astronauts on the ISS by reusing all available moisture.


Qualis supports a variety of work in the ECLSS High Bay at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center.

The ECLSS team recently completed work on the water processor unit, which shipped to Kennedy Space Center for launch to the ISS in late 2008. Delivery of the water processor will be a huge step for the International Space Station. The processor unit will allow the ISS to run at a full crew size of six astronauts, enabling more international science utilization of the ISS’s capabilities.
