Safety
Safety is a high priority for Qualis management and employees. Qualis management encourages employees to actively participate in safety training and events, and presents “Safety Awards” to employees who make special contributions to workplace safety. You can review the Qualis Safety Manual to review our safety policies. Many of our customers have also recognized Qualis for our high safety standards:
NASA Level 1 Safety Award
NASA awarded Qualis’ Materials Testing for Aerospace Environments (MTAE) contract a NASA Level 1 Safety Award for achieving consistently excellent evaluations in four safety elements:
- management commitment and employee involvement
- system and worksite hazard analysis
- hazard prevention and control
- safety and health training
In addition to achieving and maintaining an average score of 90% (≥ 36 out of 40 cumulatively) for at least one year, the Level I award requires NO lost-time injuries for the MTAE contract during that year. The MTAE contract, with the ICRC / Qualis team, has achieved more than 500,000 work hours without a lost-time injury.
2006 Contractor Excellence Award
The Jacobs ESTS Group, of which Qualis is a teammate, received the 2006 Contractor Excellence Award for MSFC. This is a great honor which demonstrates the safety, quality, and technical excellence for the contract. Because the ESTS Group is the 2006 winner of this award, they will be MSFC's nomination for the 2007 George M. Low award.
Curtis Bahr Receives Exceptional Service Medal
Curtis Bahr, a Qualis employee, received the Exceptional Public Service Medal at the Marshall Space Flight Center Director’s All Hands Awards Presentation on June 21st, 2006 in Morris Auditorium. According to the citation, Curtis responded quickly and intelligently to contain possible danger to MSFC employees and damage to MSFC property by accessing an explosion in Building 4487, Room 267, that occurred on Wednesday, July 6, 2005.

James Owens, Group Achievement Safety Award, 5/22/06
James received a NASA Engineering Safety Center Group Acheivement Award for participating in the CEV Smart Buyer Activity. The NESC Chief Engineer, Ralph Roe, along with MSFC deputy director Charles Chitwood presented this award. The same effort generated a letter from Mr. Roe. His specific support was Service Module structural design, which was led by GRC.
